Can you send emails asking people to consent to marketing?
On the 20th March 2017, the ICO fined Honda for sending 343,093 emails. The emails requested consent from individuals, so that Honda could send more marketing materials to individuals who opted in. The emails themselves were deemed to be unsolicited marketing emails, which Honda did not have consent to send under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
